How Do You Read A Tyre?

Reading the information on the side of your tyre is the first step when it comes to selecting a new one.

It will look something like this: 205/65 R16 95 V.

When you find out this information, you will be able to tell what size you need much easier.

205/65 R16 95 V is the format for the follwoing tyre size: Width 205 Profile 65 Size RIM16 Load index 95 Speed Rating V

What Is The Aspect Ratio?

The aspect ratio is the height of the tyre from the rim to the tread.

It is normally shown as a percentage so this is something that you need to keep note of.

What Does The R Mean?

R means Radial and it is normally used to tell you the construction type.

This doesn't really matter in this day and age because all car tyres are actually radial.

If you don't see an R however, then this means that your tyre is not radial.

What Does The Rim Diameter Mean?

The diameter of the rim tells you what tyre can be fitted.

Nearly all tyres are measured in inches and the same goes for international tyres as well.

Whats A Load Rating?

This is used to describe how much load the tyre can take.

The higher the number then the more load you can carry when the tyre is at a high pressure.

What Is A Speed Rating?

The speed symbol tells you how fast you can go.

A higher speed rating doesn't mean that you need to go faster, but most of the time the speed rating tells you how much heat your tyre can stand.

For example, if you drive long distances in hot conditions then you may require a tyre rating with a higher speed symbol.

Where Do I Find The Tyre Brand?

The name of the Brand is usually also on the tyre.

It is always a good idea to know what brand of tyre you are using.

This will help you to make a better decision when it comes to the selection process.
